Guests look through two or three windows all afternoon

A party does not spread itself evenly through a house. People collect in the kitchen, move in and out to the deck, and end up standing at whatever glass looks onto the yard. That is three or four panes doing all the work, and they are the ones being looked through from both sides for six hours.

The patio door matters most, because everybody passes it and half of them stand at it. It is also the pane most likely to be marked, since it collects hands, dogs and whatever the sprinkler throws at it all summer.

This is the part that surprises people. You can have genuinely clean glass and still get a dull, flat view of the garden, because the screen in front of it is holding a full summer of pollen, dust and insect debris. Exterior-only cleaning is the normal choice for general maintenance, and for most of the year it is the right one. Hosting changes that. Guests stand on the interior side of the glass, at conversational distance, in daylight. Fingerprints around the door handle, cooking film in the kitchen and nose marks at dog height are all invisible from outside and obvious from a metre away.

Doing both sides in one visit also costs less than two visits, because the screens are already out and the tracks are already open.
